overview

  • My name is Tao Yang, an Assistant Professor at the University of Toledo. I lead a multidisciplinary research program focused on the interplay between the gut microbiome, host metabolism, and blood pressure regulation. My work bridges physiology, microbiology, and translational medicine, with particular interest in the mechanisms by which diet, sex, and microbial metabolites influence cardiovascular health.

I have authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications in pretigious journals, such as including Nature Review Nephrology, Circulation Research, Hypertension, etc. and serves on editorial boards for Hypertension and Physiological Genomics. My research has been supported by the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation, American Heart Association and NIH, and my lab has made pioneering discoveries on the sex-specific roles of gut bacteria in hypertension.

I am also committed to academic service, mentoring trainees, and serving on selective professional committees. I am a Fellow of American Heart Association. My trainees have secured early career awards from the American Heart Association for 3 consecutive years. Through both research and service, I have contributed to advancing precision medicine approaches for cardiovascular disease.
