Karen M Vargas

overview

  • My great passion is nursing.  I have been a nurse for over 20 years and have been involved in this profession from the bedside to the classroom.  One of my goals is to bring a love of nursing to my students.  I am currently faculty in the University of Toledo's College of Nursing and teach Fundamentals and Population Health nursing courses.  Working with students in this stage of their career is as exciting for me as I hope it is for them.

My educational background includes a PhD in Educational Psychology, and a certificate in the Foundations of Peace education.  My dissertational topic was "The Effect of a Self-Guided Simulation Tool on Anxiety Related to Clinical Practice Among Baccalaureate Nursing Students during their first Clinical Rotation".  The focus of this research was to identify a methodology to decreasing anxiety in new nursing students.  Previously, I obtained a Master's in Nursing (MSN) with a focus on Nursing Education also certified by the American Nurses' Associations as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE).
