Karen Vargas's great passion is nursing as she has been a nurse for 30 years and has been involved in this profession from the bedside to the classroom. One of her goals is to bring a love of nursing to her nursing students. She is currently faculty in the University of Toledo's College of Nursing and teaches Fundamentals and Population Health nursing courses. Working with students in this stage of their career is as exciting for her as she hopes it is for you.
Her educational background includes a PhD in Educational Psychology, and a certificate in the Foundations of Peace education. Her dissertational topic was "The Effect of a Self-Guided Simulation Tool on Anxiety Related to Clinical Practice Among Baccalaureate Nursing Students during their first Clinical Rotation". The focus of this research was to identify a methodology to decrease anxiety in new nursing students.
Previously, she obtained a Master's in Nursing (MSN) with a focus on Nursing Education and is also certified by the American Nurses' Associations as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE).
The professional organizations that she is involved in are the Medical Reserve Corps and Sigma Theta Tau International where she currently serves as chapter President.
