Social Media to Enhance Learning in Nursing Education Conference Poster (Faculty180)

description

  • As a student, social media has been an easy source for group communication throughout cohorts. For example, some students start a large group chat or Facebook page to communicate due dates and exam times to make sure everyone is aware of common events. Whether or not the different mediums are effective depend on how each individual utilizes the resource. It can be challenging for students to obtain correct information when social media is misused, or rumors are started at the cohort level. Students also use forms of social media to help provide further enforcement on concepts from lectures. It is important for students to be able to decipher whether the source they find on the internet and social media is credible for use of learning. We conducted a literature review and created a learning module for students entering their first semester of the nursing program. The module includes active learning exercises to strengthen social media skills regarding education. The module also highlights the best tips for successful use of social media when communicating in large groups.
