description

  • Abstract The use of stories as an instructional strategy facilitates student learning through engagement and higher order thinking and supports the development of important 21st century skills namely communication and collaboration. The literature contains limited documented accounts in engineering education in which students develop their own unique stories. This presentation seeks to address this gap by describing the implementation, effectiveness, and pedagogical value of student-generated stories in a mechanical engineering technology (MET) classroom. This presentation will: detail the integration of this instructional strategy in the fall 2020 and 2021 semesters and discuss next steps including advice for other higher education instructors.
