description

  • In this chapter, I highlight best practices of cross-disciplinary communication instruction through the creation and implementation of life projects: hands-on assignments that are versatile, relevant, aligned with course objectives, and both motivate and enable students to develop their communication competence through performance-based assessment methods. After describing life projects, I provide two examples. I then explain how these projects exemplify effective cross-disciplinary communication pedagogy. Finally, I describe some of the broader impacts of life projects and conclude with a set of guidelines for creating and implementing them in cross-disciplinary communication instruction.
