Tisha Mays began her broadcasting career in Toledo, Ohio, in 2005. During her tenure
at WJUC 107.3, she served as a long-time on-air personality, Production Director, and
Internship Coordinator. Beyond her radio work, Tisha actively contributed to numerous
national and community organizations, committees, and events.
Currently, she is a Lecturer at the University of Toledo and serves as the Faculty Advisor
for UToledo’s radio station, WXUT 88.3. Tisha designed and implemented courses such
as Audio I, Audio II, and The Art of Podcasting, while also teaching Social Media I and
II, and Communication Principles and Practices.
Tisha is a passionate advocate for students, having served as an Equity Champion for
the UToledo Student Experience Project, a national initiative aimed at creating equitable
learning environments and fostering a sense of belonging on campus. She is the
member and Research Chair for the Multicultural Studies Division for the Broadcast
Education Association and members of the National Communication Association. She
has served on and created national panels focusing on recruitment and retention,
pedagogy, and faculty belonging in higher education. Her research centers on the
connection between broadcasting, integrated media, and child literacy.
Tisha holds a B.A. in Mass Communication for radio and television from the University
of Akron, an M.A. in Strategic Communication with a specialization in Interactive Media
from Bowling Green State University, and an A.A. in Teacher Education from Eastern
Gateway Community College. She is currently completing her Ph.D. at Bowling Green
State University. Expecting ABD, February 05.
A strong believer in community involvement, Tisha has worked with organizations such
as the YMCA, American Advertising Federation of Toledo, Association of Fundraising
Professionals, and MLK Kitchen for the Poor. She is also a member of Jack and Jill of
America, Inc. In addition, she founded the aMAYSing Kids Broadcasting and Media
Mentorship Program, a 501(c)(3) organization focused on closing the reading gap and
encouraging a love for reading in young students.
Tisha’s dedication to education, youth development, and community service is reflected
in her numerous achievements, including receiving the American Advertising
Federation’s Mosaic Educator Award, winning the Northwest Ohio Jumpstart Impact
competition for aMAYSing Kids Inc., and completing the Minority Executive Leadership
Certificate from the Center for Nonprofit Resources.
