  • Dr. Boddu is an Associate Professor and the director of the Industrial Pharmacy Graduate Program at the University of Toledo, College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Boddu earned a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) from Bapatla College of Pharmacy and Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm) in Pharmaceutics from the NDMVP Samaj’s College of Pharmacy, University of Pune, India. Later he joined as a research associate at Wockhardt Ltd., a leading generic pharmaceutical and biotechnology company. While employed there, he invented an aqueous solution dosage form for oral administration of risperidone. This dosage form is approved for treating schizophrenia in adults. His work and ideas in this area have been patented (WIPO Patent Application WO/2007/138462). Dr. Boddu received his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) in December 2010. Dr. Boddu has designed and characterized various novel drug delivery systems for the treatment of posterior segment ocular diseases such as diabetic macular edema and retinoblastoma. He has published more than 50 research and review articles in various peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Boddu is a co-Editor of the book entitled "Excipient Applications in Formulation Design and Drug Delivery". He secured over $100,000 in research funding from various foundations and pharmaceutical companies. He received the prestigious UMKC Chancellor’s Doctoral Fellowship Award for the years 2008-2010. He was the recipient of UMKC Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Honor in the fall of 2010. Dr. Boddu serves as a Steering Committee member of the AAPS Microdialysis Focus Group. Dr. Boddu’s current research interests are developing novel drug delivery systems for the treatment of anterior and posterior segment ocular diseases and various types of cancers. In addition, he works closely with clinicians to design novel drug delivery systems and technologies for translational research on treatment of chronic sinusitis and scleroderma.
