  • Since joining the faculty at UTMC, I have strived to excel in the areas of education, scholarship, administration, and service. One of my greatest passions is teaching, which is the reason I chose to remain in academic medicine.  I was involved in giving the pulmonary team-based learning curriculum to second year medical students. I gave lectures in the topic of pulmonary function testing, upper and lower respiratory tract infections. I participated in making multiple-choice questions for their individual readiness assurance test (IRAT). I was also involved in residents' teaching from the beginning including resdidents from internal medcine, emergency medicine, and family medicine residency programs. I also teach fellows from pulmonary and critical care, rheumatology and infectious diseases program. Since serving as the program director of pulmonary and critical care fellowship. I led the efforts involved in teaching the fellowship program core curriculum including their weekly lectures, journal club, conferences, symposia, and scholastic activities. I supervise their clinics and mentor their research and practice-based learning projects.

    Clinically, I have maintained a busy clinical practice since my appointment. I have a board certification in internal medicine, pulmonary, and critical care from the american board of medical specialties. I cover inpatient services in the medical intensive care unit and pulmonary consultation. I have medical students, residents and fellows in these services. I perform various preocedurs as needed such as bronchsocpy and ICU procedures. I also have a busy outpatient pulmonary clinic that I cover two times a week and see referred patients from all specialties. I help staff lung nodule and lung cancer clinic. 

    I also serve as the director of the respiratory care and intensive care unit. My primary role in these positions is to maintain staffing, review protocols, and maintain quality metrics as required by CMS and hospital associations.

    Administration role, I am currently involved in multiple quality-improving committees including chair of sepsis core measures committee, post-operative respiratory failure, and COPD and pneumonia readmission. My role in these committees is to identify and manage factors associated with poor adherence to core measures, or leading to patient readmission within thirty days. 

    In regard to research and scholastic activities, I published 14 peer-reviewed articles, one book chapter and participated as an investigator and subinvestigator in four research grants as illustarted in my CV. My main research has been in the field of lung cancer genetics, connective tissue disease related interstitial lung disease, and ventilator-associated pneumonia. These research papers were published in well known peer reviewed journals such as american journal of infection control, BMC pulmonary medicine, annals of american thoracic society and mayo clinic proceedings. I also assissted in submitting 15 abstracts with mediccal students, residents, and pulmonary fellows to national meetings including American college of chest physicians, American thoracic society and society of critical care medicine.
