My Ph.D. (Major: Marketing with a specialization in International Business) is from Georgia State University, an AACSB-accredited institution received in May 2019. I was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the University of Toledo in Fall 2019.
Teaching PhilosophyMy teaching philosophy for marketing and international business is centered on providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the rapidly evolving global marketplace. I believe in fostering an engaging an inclusive learning environment that encourages active student participation, critical thinking, and the practical application of concepts. By integrating real-world case studies, current industry trends, and interactive discussions, I aim to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in a competitive business landscape. Thus far, I have taught four courses including the undergraduate courses the Global Environment of Business (BUAD 2080) and International Marketing (MKTG 3140) and the graduate courses International Business (BUAD 6500) and Strategic Marketing and Analysis (BUAD 6300) taught in partnership with the PSG Institute of Management in Coimbatore, India.
My role as a professor is to educate students how to critically assess international business and marketing concepts through which they can understand the cultural and ethical implications in the firm decision-making process. Throughout my studies, I have encountered many professors who have inspired me and opened my mind to different perspectives and ways of analyzing problems. I want to be the one who inspires others. I have seen myself grow as an educator in my time at the University of Toledo, as one who shares new ideas to offer new perspectives on behavior and management within complex organizations. In my courses, I emphasize the importance of experiential learning, developing cultural intelligence, and the connection of foundational concepts and skills learned in course curriculum to student-centered career goals.
Professional Activity and Scholarship
My detailed narrative statement on professional activity is an overview of my research agenda followed by my research activity and scholarly contributions. To date, I have four peer-reviewed journal articles published ranked A* or A or B by the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) Journal Quality List Ranking, one book chapter published, and one general management magazine published for a professional audience based on expert opinion. In addition, I have fourteen refereed conference papers that I have presented at top international business and marketing conferences.
I have participated as an expert speaker and panelist on sustainable business while representing the University of Toledo at top institutions, conferences, and webinars including Yale University, Georgia State University, California State University, and the economic development organization of the Regional Growth Partnership for Foreign Direct Investment in the state of Ohio. In terms of a global impact, I have been interviewed by journalists at the prestigious news outlets of BBC Earth, Fashion Dive, and The Washington Post on my perspective on sustainable fashion for global brands based on my research findings as well as UToledo News. I also annually participate in invited international webinars as a panelist for institutions including the Academy of International Business and Georgia State’s Center for International Business Education and Research pedagogy.
My scholarly contributions have contributed to the advancement of global knowledge by building upon extant research while also providing new insights and perspectives for intellectual growth. Through my research efforts, I have created a ripple effect for sustainable business, therefore bridging the gap between practitioners and scholars. My work has gained attention by industry professionals who have invited me to join expert boards and symposiums to consult on the adoption of more sustainable practices, leading to a positive impact on the environment and society. This ripple effect has contributed to a growing awareness and implementation of socially responsible business strategies, ultimately driving a positive change in our world.
Service Narrative
Throughout my time as an Assistant Professor at the University of Toledo at the Neff College of Business and Innovation, I have not only dedicated myself to advancing my research and teaching excellence, but also serving our academic community. My activities reflect my commitment to cultivating a dynamic and inclusive learning environment in marketing and international business education and enhancing the University’s reputation locally and globally.
Since joining the Department of Marketing in August of 2019, I have actively participated in various committees to enhance our academic programs. As a member of both the Undergraduate and Graduate Marketing and International Business Curriculum Committees, I have played a significant role in revising our curriculum to include a more global perspective and incorporate industry trends so that education matches needed corporate skillsets. I believe my role in curriculum development at a departmental level ensures that students are adequately prepared for the complexities of the business landscape. I have contributed specifically to the enrichment of the courses of the Global Environment of Business (BUAD 2080), International Marketing (MKTG 3140), and the MBA course for International Business (IB 6500). In addition to curriculum development, I have taken on leadership roles at the department and college levels. I have served as chair of the Academic Grievance Committee as well as chair of the Marketing and International Business Advisory Board.
