  • Dr. Wishner joined the Physician Assistant Program as full-time faculty in 2014, bringing extensive international, clinical, and interdisciplinary experience to her role. She previously served as Clinic Director of the National Police in her native country, the Republic of Panama, and as the physician for the Panamanian Olympic Committee. Her distinguished career includes service in critical global events, such as providing medical support following the Chernobyl disaster in the mid-1980s and delivering urgent care at Ground Zero on September 11, 2001.

    Dr. Wishner earned her Doctor of General Medicine in 1990 from the First Institute of Medicine in Russia/Ukraine and later completed a Master of Public Health in 2012 through the Bowling Green State University/University of Toledo Consortium. She played an integral role in the development of the Interprofessional Immersive Simulation Center, serving as both a faculty member and leader in advancing simulation-based medical education. Actively engaged in Interprofessional Education (IPE), Dr. Wishner collaborates with ten health professions at the University of Toledo to promote teamwork, communication, and patient-centered care. Her research interests focus on disaster medicine and public health, fields in which she has both academic expertise and direct field experience.

    In 2023, she was appointed Medical Director of Interprofessional Education, overseeing collaborative initiatives that bring together ten medical professions across the university to prepare students for effective interprofessional collaborative practice.

    In addition to her academic and clinical contributions, Dr. Wishner served in the U.S. Air Force as a Reserve Public Health Officer, retiring with the rank of Captain. In 2019, she was promoted to Associate Dean of Inclusion and Opportunity for the College of Medicine and Life Sciences, where she continues to advance inclusion and opportunity for all staff, faculty, and students.
