As a diagnostic category, Trauma-and Stress or-Related Disorders represent a new grouping in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (; DSM-5; American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). After all, the immediately preceding ver-sion of the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disordersâ4th ed., text rev.; DSM-IV-TR; APA, 2000) conceptualized Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) among Anxiety disorders. Some would argue that this change reflected a true evolution of research and understanding about trauma and its consequences for individuals, families, and communities. Others have argued that this change reflects only the APAâs refusal to recognize the full implications of trauma research (Van der Kolk, 2005).
