<p>a. The purpose of this policy is to describe the Libraries’ criteria and practices for selecting new collection materials and for managing existing collection materials. Managing the collection includes facilitating access, preserving, evaluating, and deselecting (weeding). Both selecting and managing are considered equally important parts of the Libraries’ collection development process.<br>b. This policy is intended for use by University of Toledo librarians and staff involved in collection development activities. It also serves as a means of communicating the Libraries’ collection development philosophy and practices to the University community and beyond.<br>c. This policy covers the Libraries’ general collection of resources accessible to users of the Carlson Library (Main Campus) and Mulford Health Science Library (Health Science Campus). The LaValley Law Library (Main Campus) and Canaday Center for Special Collections (in the Carlson Library) may maintain their own collection development policies.</p>
