Recent research emphasizes that innovative pedagogy should be prioritized over traditional teaching methods to develop nursing students’ EBP knowledge, skills, and abilities. This scoping review aims to identify the body of literature on innovative methods for teaching EBP to baccalaureate nursing students, and to examine research gaps. Additionally, this review seeks to understand and define the nature of innovation in the context of EBP instruction. Methods: Seven databases were searched to identify literature: CINAHL, Education Research Complete, Embase, ERIC, LISTA, MEDLINE, and PsycINFO. The search strategy included keywords and subject headings for the concepts of innovation, teaching, EBP, information literacy, and baccalaureate nursing education. No limits for publication date or language were applied. Articles for inclusion will consist of individual research studies or systematic reviews focusing on pre- or post-licensure baccalaureate nursing students. Articles on associate degree or graduate-entry nursing students, and traditional didactic or lecture-based teaching methods, will be excluded. Results: The search yielded 5,746 records. Following duplicate removal, 3,131 titles and abstracts were independently screened by two reviewers against pre-determined eligibility criteria. After full-text review, data from articles meeting inclusion criteria will be extracted and synthesized. Conclusions: Innovative teaching ignites a spirit of inquiry among students. Nursing faculty and librarians have an array of innovative possibilities to consider when collaborating to teach EBP to future nurses.
