<p>The year 2020 will live on in infamy due to two phenomena: The COVID pandemic and its resulting toll and anxiety; and the popular uprisings, sparked by the murder of George Floyd in the USA but soon spreading around the world. The intersection of these crises did not spare Africa and, in urban centers across the continent, youth rose up—both virtually and in-person— to protest injustices often perpetrated by the state.
