This paper describes the use of the Ready Develop Integrate Perform (RDIP) Model to frame a system of digital badges within a graduate research methods course. The model is first presented followed by its application to develop a competency-based assessment system within the course. A proposed a digital badge design framework to support the competency-based assessment system is detailed. Limited research on the application of competency-based design and assessment and digital badge technology in graduate research education is available. Of particular interest is implementing competency-based assessment and micro-credentialing within traditional graduate education settings.
