description

  • Contemporary Art Toledo welcomes Princess - Alexis Gideon and Michael O’Neill (and also JD Samson & MEN) - who use music as the backbone of a multi-disciplinary practice that explores issues of queerness and the concept of masculinity. Simultaneously gay, straight, queer, masculine, and feminine, Princess embodies the fluidity and coherence between the seemingly contradictory. Out There explores the roles men play and those they ought to be playing during the current cultural reckoning with misogyny. The video’s science fiction narrative explores the power of the Divine Feminine through collaborations with musician JD Samson, visual artist Jennifer Meridian, and the band TEEN. Out There premiered at The Andy Warhol Museum in early 2019 and has since been performed at dozens of contemporary art venues across the country, including The New Museum, The Bass, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, MCA San Diego, MIT List Visual Arts Center, MOCA Cleveland, New Museum, and Burlington City Arts Center. (CAT is delighted to be on this list.)
